Masters of the Universe
Launched in 1981 by Mattel, Masters of the Universe was one of the best selling toy lines of the 80s and featured figures from the television series.
What can best be described as a cross between Barbie and He-Man, Mattel launched Shera: Princess of Power, He-Man's twin sister who lived in the world of Etheria in this spin-off of Masters of the Universe.
Launched in 1989, The New Adventures of He-Man tried to revitalize the franchise, but while it lasted several years it never had the following of the original toy line.
In 2000 Mattel re-released the classic Masters of the Universe figures in their original packaging with new outer packaging to protect them. They released 18 figures as well as the two battle cats before discontinuing the line with the launch of the new Modern line of figures.
In 2002 Mattel relaunched the line and the cartoon series and it immediately became a hit with collectors. Teaming up with the Four Horsemen to design the figures, Mattel was able to create a very detailed and well designed line of figures.
After the end of the Modern Masters of the Universe figures Neca continued the line through a line of Mini-Statues that continued where the figures left off.
A new line done in the style of the vintage line with enhanced articulation and incorporating characters from every incarnation on Masters of the Universe and She-Ra.
