Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro participated in a very interesting chat for their upcoming Hobbit film and its sequel. They are still in the writing stage, so there is still a long ways to go, but there are some great insights into their direction and how the movies will look and feel as well as how they will stand next to The Lord of the Rings. Ian McKellen reprising his role as Gandalf in the Hobbit

According to Sci Fi Wire Ian McKellen has said that he is reprising his role as Gandalf in The Hobbit which is being directed by Guillermo del Toro. Look for filming to begin in 2009, with The Hobbit coming out in 2010 and its sequel in 2011.

Guillermo del Toro officially signed for the two Hobbit movies

Guillermo del Toro has finally been signed to direct The Hobbit and its sequel dealing with the events between it and the Lord of the Rings. There isn't a script yet, but he will be collaborating with Jackson, Walsh and Philippa Boyens. While the movie is still a ways out, probably 3-4 years, this is awesome news. If you've seen Hellboy, or especially Pan's Labyrinth you can see his creativity come through on the big screen. With him teaming up with Peter Jackson and his creative team this should be a truly amazing movie, just as the Lord of the Rings was. Now the waiting begins...
