I still want more Star Wars movies...

Since Episode I hit the theaters in 1999, the "in" thing has been to hate the prequels and pretty much anything Lucas has touched, but I have to say I love all 3 movies and wish we could see more of them. While the prequels do have problems, with Jar Jar being the biggest, there is a lot to like in them from awesome villains to some great duels and some exciting action scenes. I want more Star Wars movies not as some life changing event, but as fun and exciting escapist entertainment.

And I think there are two directions Lucas could proceed with these. The first is he could extend the saga and start it out with Luke as the leader of the council 20 years after the end of Return of the Jedi. It would be great to see Luke taking the place of the old wise Jedi leading the council and to see the Republic as it is rebuilt. I think this is pretty unlikely, so that is where my second and probably more popular idea comes in.

I think it would be great if Lucas would let other filmmakers make Star Wars movies. Lucas could take on the role of executive producer and help to collaborate on story ideas and design for the movie. This would allow the extension of the Star Wars universe into new territory. I just think it would be cool to see some of the great directors out there today explore different time periods and settings in the Star Wars universe.

While I don't think either of the above ideas will happen I guess you never know...
